St Clement's Bushwalkers

  • St Clement's on the Hill Anglican Church 2 Eudunda Street Stafford, QLD, 4053 Australia (map)

Join us for a 7km return walk at O'Reilly's on the Lamington Plateau. (Allow a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Stafford.)

The walk begins at the Guesthouse and follows the Border Track then branches off to Picnic Rock which is along the Box Forest Circuit. While it is a relatively short walk, it does require a good level of fitness with the challenge of a steep descent (and uphill return) and some steep edges, muddy sections, as well as tree roots and rocks on the trail. This is a Class 4 walk which advises caution at creek crossings and prior experience in bushwalking.

The walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or push-walkers. However, the O’Reilly’s Botanical Gardens, a one kilometre scenic circuit, is ideal for those who can follow a graded path and wish to enjoy a beautiful garden. For families with adventurous children, the Suspension Walk (which branches off the Botanical Gardens circuit) is well worth the challenge of walking on wobbly board and chain 20 metres above ground level and with spectacular views.

We will meet at the O’Reilly’s carpark at 10am and start the main walk at 10:30am.

Lunch is at Picnic Rock. Intrepid walkers may choose to go a bit further along the track to Elabana Falls and lunch there. We should be back at the carpark by 2pm.

The walk is through sub-tropical rainforest in winter so plan for leeches and cooler weather. Bring good walking shoes, hat, long sleeves and long pants to protect against scratches, insect bites and leeches. Bring day pack with rain jacket, sunscreen, repellant, water, morning tea and lunch. O’Reilly’s Mountain Café and Gift Shop is well stocked and open 8am-4pm, although the kitchen closes at 3pm. Carpooling is recommended.

To attend: please put your name on the list at the back of the Church or advise margaretgriddle@gmail.com
