Coffee Brigade Sandwich Making Team

Our own St Clement's on the Hill members Richelle, Fran, Rose, June and Elsie (pictured) make sandwiches on the first Tuesday of the month for the Ecumenical Coffee Brigade, and have been doing so for a long time.

Fran & Elsie remember the 1974 floods when the ECB operated from Stanley Street.  In their words, "...dead rats were found under the table before the 1974 floods.  In those floods the bags of brown sugar got wet.  It was like syrup and had to be cleaned up and no hot water was to be used."

"The ECB had two more homes at Webber House and Boundary Street.  When it moved to Isaac Street, Lorna Jenkins took over from Miss Toogood due to Miss Toogood's ill health.  Lorna was assisted by her sister Joan.... Up to 80-100 loaves of bread were collected as well as bread rolls and iced buns."

"On the first Tuesday of the month, St Clement's Anglican ladies would boil 6 dozen eggs, peel, grate and curry them for sandwich fillings."
